The Thomas Browne Society
It has been noted that there is no formal national or international Society for Sir Thomas Browne, bringing people together to celebrate his work and to aid academic investigation. There is a proposal to convene a group of people to explore the idea of establishing one. If you would like to be informed about any developments or get involved please fill in the form below:
There is a small steering group of people who work together to develop activities with a view to building a community of people interested in Browne and with the mission of making Browne and his work better known. We do not currently feel that we can offer enough to warrant a membership fee, and we don't have the resources (amongst our volunteers) to run one more formally but we have collected a group of interested people to champion Browne. We have inaugurated an annual Sir Thomas Browne Day on 19 October as well as other activities around that date, and we encourage people around the country (world) to join forces and organise events in their area. We are also developing resources to help people to introduce Browne and his work to those who don't know anything about him.
The current steering group is: Marion Catlin (Norwich), Maggie Wheeler (Norwich), Kevin Faulkner (Norwich), Hugh Aldersey Williams, (Norfolk), Professor Claire Preston (QMU London), Dr Kevin Killeen (York University), Dr Jim Bryant (Sheffield), Head Verger of St Peter Mancroft Church Chris Sanham (Norwich)
